 WALES TRIUMPHANT IN TREVISO
 Wales recorded a win in their first game of the season defeating Italy 11-14 in Treviso today (22nd October).
 The new-look Welsh side travelled to Italy after only two training sessions as a squad, to face an Azzuri team that came onto the field as European Nations Champions.
 For a full 80 minutes of the game there was little to separate the two sides, with a mirrored points sequence ensuring a tense encounter. It was experience that pulled in the points, with Non Evans securing all 14 for the visitors.
 
 Both Italy and Wales slotted over two penalties in the first half to keep the score level at 6-6. It was Wales that broke the line first for a five-pointer, as the back-line put the ball through hands allowing Vice-Captain, Clare Flowers to release Non Evans to cross. Italy duly responded with a try of their own, to draw the score level at 11-11 as the sides went in for half time.
 
 The equilibrium remained for the full 40 minutes of the second half and it was looking like a sure-fire draw until Wales grasped their chance as a penalty decision went their way in what was to be the last play of the game. Non Evans coolly stepped up and slotted the ball over from 5m outside the 22 to secure victory for Wales.
 
 Rachel Poolman and Beth Hawke both gained their first caps in the starting line-up, with Amy Thompson coming on from the bench to claim hers.
 
 Fielies Coetsee reflected the promising start to the season “Both Jason Lewis and I feel this was a pleasing start for the squad and we now have plenty to work on looking towards the Six Nations.”

Siccome penso che voi ragazze non vogliate essere trattate come delle femminucce, ma alla pari dei maschietti, mi permetto di fare alcune critiche alla partita:
 - la prima linea italiana è veramente molto forte e ha messo in grossa crisi le gallesi, rubando anche un tallonaggio.
 - il numero 8 (perdonate ma non conosco i nomi) è proprio brava e ha preso sempre la linea del vantaggio
 - il numero 10, seppur bravina tecnicamente, non ha visto mai che le ali dall\'aperta gallesi difendevano piatte e strette. Calci dietro di loro erano quasi sempre la soluzione migliore. Diciamo che la visione di gioco non è stata il suo forte.
 - la peggiore in campo è stata il nostro estremo: ha fatto delle cose, scusate, indecenti. Non era mai in posizione (quando vedi che ti i loro calci ti scavalcano una, poi due, poi tre volte, forse, è meglio se stai un po\' più profonda... In attacco non ha mai fatto la differenza e non sa che cos\'è il calcio rasoterra...
 - la n. 12 placca meglio di molti centri del super 10...
 
 Nel complesso è stato un vero peccato perdere una partita così.
 
 Commento puramente tecnico, come se fosse stato un incontro maschile.

Il commento è per lo più condivisibile, ma provo a dare un contributo costruttivo:
 1) Le ragazze che abbiamo visto ieri (n. 10 Schiavon Veronica, n. 9 Schiavon Valentina, n. 8 Gaudino, n. 12 Zangirolami) sono tutte e quattro molto giovani
 (n. 12 classe 85 - n. 9 classe 84 - n. 10 e n. 8 classe 82). Se a questo si aggiunge il fatto che durante una stagione giocano pochissimo a livello internazionale (max. 3 partite) ci si rende conto che l\'esperienza fin qui maturata non è poi molta.
 2) Qualcuno potrebbe domandarsi poi come mai l\'Italia non abbia un estremo forte tanto quello del Galles (riflettiamo sul fatto che l\'Italia conta 280 atlete a livello seniores! le altre sono tutte giovanissime e anche se brave bisognerà aspettare un pò per vederle)
 3) Una brutta prestazione (anche se purtroppo condizionante per la squadra) può capitare a tutti anche ad una giocatrice esperta come la Tondinelli (n. 15).
 4) I nostri avanti pur inferiori come peso, sono mobili e molto organizzati in mischia chiusa (complimenti!)
 5) La Capitana Stefan (n. 2), molto forte nel gioco aperto, purtroppo ha sbagliato qualche lancio in Touche... aspetto però che può essere migliorato con l\'allenamento specifico.
 6) Il gioco al piede..... questo si che è un argomento interessante... Si potrebbe aprire un dibattito lungo ore!
 
 Pertanto nel complesso credo che questa sia una nazionale che in prospettiva potrà crescere a livello esponenziale, quanto più avrà modo di confrontarsi con nazionali di spessore, quale è quella del Galles.

 24/10/2005, Roma – Italia – Galles femminile, giocata sabato a Treviso, sarà l’evento protagonista di “Spazio Rugby” mercoledì (ore 14.30) su Canale Digitale Terrestre di LA7.
 
 E’ prevista un’ampia sintesi della partita commentata in studio da Marco Bollesan, interviste al CT Andrea Cococcetta, alla Responsabile del Settore Femminile della FIR, Maria Cristina Tonna, e all’Azzurra Daniela Gini.  Va tutto benissimo. Ho solo voluto fare un commento sulla partita. Oltrettutto non conosco la realtà del rugby femminile, per cui il mio non voleva essere in termini assoluti.
 
 Per il gioco al piede, secondo me le ragazze dovrebbero giocare con palloni più piccoli, visto che hanno mani e piedi più piccole. Si vede che fanno proprio fatica a dare forza all\'attrezzo. La sensazione è paragonabile a quella di vedere un uomo calciare una palla medica...

 Da quello che so, durante l\'ultima coppa FIRA vinta dall\'Italia, è stato fatto un esperimento in tal senso.
 Sarebbe curioso parlare con le ragazze per sapere come è andata.

 Wales Women went to Treviso and beat Italy\'s Women 14-11 at Stadio Monigo on Saturday.
 
 
 It was a tense but important win the new-look Welsh side as the country recovers from the disappointment of ending last in the Six nations and not making the Women\'s World Cup in Canada next year.
 
 Italy came in with high hopes after their women won the European Nations Cup (the Six nations B) last season.
 
 Wales had three new caps for the match - Rachel Poolman, Beth Hawke and Amy Thompson, the last off the bench.
 
 Italy also had new caps - Michela Tondinelli, Giovanna Bado, Sara Barattin, Elena Sartorato and Gimena Panichelli.
 
 Veronica Schiavon opened the score for Italy with a penalty after just three minutes. Then Non Evans kicked two before Veronica Schiavon added her second after flank Catrina Nicholas had been yellow-carded.
 
 Wales broke the deadlock when Clare Flowers sent speedy fullback Non Evans in for a try. After several phases captain Licia Stefan scored Italy\'s on half-time.
 
 Italy lost Licia Stefan early in the second half through injury.
 
 There was no score in the second half in which Wales dominated the line-outs till the very last act of the match when Non Evans goaled a penalty from just outside the Italian 22.
 
 For Italy the defeat had victorious elements as it was probably the best-ever performance by the Italian Women\'s team as they attacked with verve and defended with resolution.
