La stagione in cifre

Messaggio da Garry » 24 giu 2022, 19:06

Here, we take a look at a selection of numbers that highlight some impressive team and individual feats from the inaugural URC campaign.

29 - Rhyno Smith scored the most points in a single match by any player with 29 - a feat he achieved in successive matches against Zebre Parma and Cardiff in May.

3 - No player scored more than three tries in a match this season, but it is a marker that was reached by nine players over the course of the campaign. The players represent nine different teams, with Makazole Mapimpi (Cell C Sharks), Boan Venter (Edinburgh), Simon Zebo (Munster), Seabelo Senatla (DHL Stormers), Johnny Matthews (Glasgow Warriors), Ryan Conbeer (Scarlets), Morgan Morris (Ospreys), Smith (Benetton) and Cornal Hendricks (Vodacom Bulls) all chalking up trebles.

11 - Leolin Zas of the Stormers took home the Top Try Scorer prize at the URC Awards, but he was joined on 11 tries by Bulls back-row Marcell Coetzee by the end of the play-offs.

8 - Eight conversions in a match was the highest figure achieved by any player, with two men reaching that number. Perhaps unusually, neither of them are out-and-out fly-halves - Benetton full-back Smith and Edinburgh wing Emiliano Boffelli share the record.

6 - Ospreys duo Gareth Anscombe and Stephen Myler are in a three-way tie with Boeta Chamberlain of the Sharks for the most penalties scored in a single fixture.

3 - Chamberlain also holds the record for the most drop-goals in a match this season thanks to his remarkable hat-trick against the Ospreys in Swansea in October.

32 - Smith took only 32 seconds to score the opening try for Benetton against Glasgow Warriors in November - the quickest of the season.

21 - Cardiff were the quickest to register a bonus point, doing so in the 21st minute of their home clash with Zebre in May. Owen Lane touched down after 20 minutes and 30 seconds to claim the try bonus.

76 - Leinster's points haul in their Final Eight match against Glasgow - a 76-14 win - was the biggest in the history of the competition. This result also represented the biggest winning margin of the season.

61 - Leinster also achieved the season's best away points haul, amassing 61 when they visited Benetton in March. The 44-point winning margin was the biggest on the road by any side.

90 - This was the highest aggregate score of the campaign and it was hit a remarkable three times in the closing stages of the season. April's thrilling West Wales Derby ended 54-36 in the Ospreys' favour against the Scarlets, before Benetton beat Cardiff 69-21 and Leinster triumphed 76-14 over Glasgow.

1,000 - Dragons fly-half Sam Davies became only the fourth player to reach 1,000 points in the URC and its predecessors, joining Dan Biggar, Dan Parks and Ian Keatley.

32,411 - The biggest attendance of the season was for last month's clash between Leinster and Munster at the Aviva Stadium. It is, however, worth noting that numbers remain limited in South Africa due to Covid restrictions and the final in Cape Town was attended by 31,000 spectators - the maximum permitted crowd with the cap in place.
