<BR>Riprendono le Coppe Europee con il terzo turno di andata e ad attendere il Benetton ci sarà la terribile trasferta di Biarritz, dove i Leoni affronteranno i Campioni di Francia.

<BR>I trevigiani giocheranno domenica, sul terreno dello Stade Aguillera alle 16, arbitrerà l’irlandese George Clancy.

<BR>La squadra trevigiana partirà sabato mattina da Venezia, arriverà a Biarritz via Parigi e nel primo pomeriggio svolgerà un’ultima seduta di allenamento, i calciatori sul terreno dello Stade Aguillera, gli altri su un campo vicino. Al termine Craig Green comunicherà la formazione.

<BR>Parma - Nel doppio anticipo della Challenge Cup, le formazioni italiane incassano altrettante sconfitte: allo stadio "Zaffanella" gli inglesi del Bristol si impongono 39-23 al termine di una incontro molto intenso sul piano fisico, e passano provvisoriamente al comando della classifica del girone 1.

<BR>Battuta d'arresto pesante per l'Amatori Catania che a Montpellier ha incassato un netto 74-12 dalla formazione dell'Hérault. Per i catanesi, scesi in campo in formazione largamente rimaneggiata, mete di Cosa ed Emanuel Viassolo, e una trasformazione di Barry Irving. Partita molto sofferta nel settore della conquista dove la maggiore consistenza dei transalpini ha fatto la differenza e impedito all'Amatori di disporre di palloni di qualità.

Five try Bristol beat Viadana 39-23 in European Challenge Cup

<BR>Skipper Dan Ward-Smith led from the front in Italy this evening scoring two tries as Bristol beat Viadana 39-23.

<BR>Bristol achieved what they set out to do on a freezing night in Viadana – win and secure a bonus point in the process.
<BR>It wasn’t always easy and Bristol weren’t firing on all cylinders but, with Dan Ward-Smith leading by example, Bristol were comfortable enough winners.
<BR>
<BR>Tommy Hayes picked up a knock in training on Friday morning and Bristol did consider bringing in Danny Gray and only starting with five replacements.
<BR>
<BR>However, Hayes started and opened the scoring after 4 minutes with a penalty which was matched by a penalty from Viadana’s Jacques Schutte after 10 minutes.
<BR>
<BR>Bristol scored their first try after 14 minutes. Lee Robinson started the move with a neat chip and catch and linked with Vaughan Going. Ollie Hodge was brought to ground five metres short and, when the ball was moved left, Dan Ward-Smith crossed. Hayes converted for a 10-3 lead.
<BR>
<BR>Schutte landed a penalty after 18 minutes but Bristol scored their second try after 35 minutes to open up a bit of daylight.
<BR>
<BR>Ollie Hodge tapped good ball back at the tail of the lineout, Vaughan Going split the defence with a nice break and Rob Higgitt came around on the loop to score. Hayes’ conversion from the touchline was spot on and Bristol led 17-6.
<BR>
<BR>Mariano Sambucetti was sinbinned on 38 minutes when he tackled a Viadana player when retreating from an offside position and that was the last incident of note in the first half.
<BR>
<BR>Viadana came out firing in the second half but knocked on in midfield as they looked set to test the Bristol defence. Vaughan Going scooped up the loose ball and ran it all the way back, taking a clever angle to keep the chasing (and appropriately named Viadana wing) Samuele Pace at bay. 22-6.
<BR>
<BR>Pace got his revenge after 47 minutes when he scored Viadana’s first try with Schutte adding the conversion to narrow the gap to 22-13.
<BR>
<BR>However, Bristol clinched the bonus point after 51 minutes. Again, Hodge provided good lineout ball and Hayes fired a long pass to Going who had come in off his wing. A long pass to Lee Robinson gave the winger enough room to canter over in the corner. Hayes again converted for a 29-13 lead.
<BR>
<BR>Bristol started to make replacements and Mark Irish and Neil Clark entered the fray on 54 minutes and Danny Gray replaced Hayes after 58 minutes.

<BR>Gray’s first contribution was to slot a penalty after 60 minutes to make the score 32-13.

<BR>Bristol then put the result beyond doubt when Ward-Smith scored his second try after 69 minutes after a quick tap from Jake Rauluni. Ward-Smith was given the benefit of the doubt under the momentum rule although a double movement could have been given. Gray converted for a 39-13 lead.

<BR>Viadana gave the score some respectability with a late catch and drive try from Matias Aguero and, after Ollie Hodge was sinbinned after 79 minutes for stopping a quick tap, Luigi Ferraro powered over after several pick and drives.

<BR>So, the first leg of the Italian job is over and Bristol will be pleased to come away with 5 points and will go into next week’s return leg in good spirits.
