per intenderci, questa è stata la loro risposta quando gli ho chiesto se per favore avevano l'ordine di segnatura delle mete:

Tunisia is on the North Coast of Africa and has a population of just below Ten million, became independent from France in 1956 and some highly talented sportsmen amongst them it appears.

What about them? Well their soccer team just beat the Australians in the confederations cup. And this has what to do with rugby, I hear you ask...

Well, let's take a look at their record recently.

The only Non African teams to play the Tunisians have been Spain and Poland both RWC matches. They have lost 5 out of their last 6 matches. With only the recent defeat in Kenya showing any signs of weakness.

In soccer they are the champions of Africa, in Rugby they are ranked number 35 by the iRB, they have a strong sevens team, yet we hear very little about the country on a day to day basis.

What are they doing in Tunisia that all of a sudden they are becoming a reasonably competitive force in sport. More importantly what can other developing rugby nations learn from them?

We from a rugby perpsective need to stop a repeat of the Namibian situation where development is stifled through lack of competitive matches. Will the CAR tournament be enough to sustain their growth and appetitie for the game? Hopefully, but who will be the first Top 15 team to tour there or receive a tour I wonder?

My money is on a French development team.

The Tunisian development shows that our beloved game has the ability to grow and grow, let's make sure that we manage it correctly. Over to you Mr iRB.

On Saturday in a World Cup qualifier, Tunisia beat Namibia 24-7 after leading 17-0 at half-time.

It's a topsy-turvy qualifying world unless you believe in the enormous power of home venues. Kenya beat Tunisia 25-21 in Nairobi. Then Namibia beat Kenya 84-12 in Windhoek. Now Tunisia beat Namibia 24-7 in Tunis. The freedom of French-based players to play for Namibia may also count.

In the first half Tunisia scored two converted tries and a penalty goal.

While Namibia dominated territory and possession in the second half, the home side scored another try. The Biltong Boere only consolation was a try under the posts by PJ van Lill, converted by replacement Roger Thompson.

For Namibia the line-outs were, according to Die Republikein's report from the Namibia coach Johan Venter, a shambles as the players were put off by the physical presence of the Tunisians. It was the driving play of the Tunisian forwards which produced their tries.

Venter added that there was a great difference between Van der Lill and Jacques Burger, who play in South Africa, and the rest of the team who were not nearly as focussed.

The scrumming was adequate but the back were poor on defence where they were brushed aside by the big Tunisians.

Namibia play their next qualifier against Kenya in Nairobi on 2 September and their last one against Tunisia in Windhoek on 9 September. Kenya meet Tunisia in Tunis on 16 September.

It was a long journey for the Namibians from Windhoek to Tunis. They left on Tuesday, spent virtually the whole day at the airport in Zurich and reached Tunis only on Thursday. After the flight the manager Sarel Losper, a legendary player for Namibia, said that the players had arrived tired, sore and stiff.

They found Tunis hot and humid but the hotel was excellent as was the hospitality of the home union.

Per me la Namibia rimane comunque la favorita per essere Africa 1
Sulla carta ha qualcosa in più delle altre ed il ritorno con la Tunisia a Windhoek
Poi bella partita con il Marocco.

Africa 1? Io vedo meglio il Marocco, sinceramente...anche alla luce della vittoria nella Coppa Africa dell'anno scorso...certo, l'Africa è una realtà piuttosto "instabile": sembra l'unico continente dove non c'è una stabilità imperante come nel resto del rugby...come si sale sul piedistallo, si fa in fretta a cadere giù: basta vedere le sorprese degli ultimi risultati...in tutti gli altri continenti i valori sono più o meno "fissati"...ci sono sorprese, ma raramente così clamorose (Madagascar finalista di Coppa Africa non più presente al turno di qualificazione - la vittoria dell'Uganda sulla Costa D'avorio)...

Forse hai ragione sul Marocco.
Certo che anche loro hanno pareggiato in Costa d'Avorio e poi questa è stata asfaltata dall'Uganda....
Non è che l'incidenza trasferte in un continente grande e logisticamente "difficile" come l'Africa influisce in maniera quasi determinante?

In ogni caso alla fine la finale africana sarà tra Namibia e Marocco salvo sorprese clamorose
