Justin Marshall is continuing his life as a rugby gypsy, joining his third European club after signing a one-year deal with French side Montpellier.
The 34-year-old former All Black has been on the move since he quit the New Zealand game in 2005.
He headed north to join English club Leeds. When they were relegated from the English Premiership he moved to Welsh club Ospreys and now he has crossed the English Channel to play in France.
Marshall's time at Ospreys has been complicated by the club having Welsh halfback Mike Phillips on their books for the past year.
The ultra-competitive Marshall has even been forced to play fullback at times.
The All Blacks most capped No 9 with 81 test appearances said he considered a temporary move back to Canterbury for this year's Air New Zealand Cup and then returning to Wales.
Canterbury halfback Andy Ellis will miss most of the domestic championship because he has now established himself as the All Blacks' top halfback.
But in the end Marshall believed the move to France was the right move. He has the option of another year on his Montpellier deal.
Montpellier coach Didier Nourault said the club was excited to get a player of Marshall's caliber.
"Justin is exactly what we were looking for," he said as the club announced Marshall's signing.
"He's a player of a very high standard with a lot of experience. He should bring plenty to the team and allow our young number nines, Julien and Adrien Tomas, to make progress."
Ospreys acknowledged that the intense competition at halfback with Phillips had contributed to Marshalll's move and in the end they didn't feel they could stand in his way.
"Set against this backdrop, it comes as no surprise, that the Ospreys agreed with Marshall to examine the opportunity for an early release and jointly identify a suitable team in Europe as the target for the transfer," Ospreys said a statement.
In the just completed northern season Marshall helped Ospreys reach the Heineken Cup quarter-finals and to win the EDF Energy Cup.
