Tra l'altro al di là del "a parole" dove si vince ogni trofeo, io purtroppo vedo nell'immediato futuro la fine di un ciclo con i vari Ongaro, Nieto, Perugini, Dellapè, Bortolami, Bergamasco in pensione e il ricambio dietro ancora in gran parte da costruire...

A questo punto ..per non essere disfattisti .....io confido nell'orgoglio personale di ciascun giocatore italiano al 100% o no e alla loro capacità di leggere la partita ..cmq sono tutti un po' esperti del gioco ..quindi prima sosteniamoli ..poi ognuno si prenda le sue responsabilità e si metta eventualmente in discussione ..e proviamo i giovani ...vincere non è impossibile ...i match cominciano tutti dallo 0-0.....forza azzurri....

Beh, Bergamasco e Bortolami hanno ancora parecchi anni di carriere ad alto livello, soprattutto se pensi a quanti anni aveva Martin Williams l'anno scorso.
Per il resto la squadra è piuttosto giovane, ma hai ragione; è per questo che io vorrei tanto tanto tanto vedere 2-3 titolari nuovi già da sto 6N, ma sarà un miracolo se ne vedremo uno (Favaro).

Boh! abbastanza d'accordo ...da tenere in considerazione ed in competizione con i giovani da provare...per me dovrebbe giocare cmq chi è più in forma ..partita per partita...

Immagino tu non abbia visto Gloster-London Irish di ieri ... Bortolami è entrato in campo a partita ampiamente compromessa (3-21 al 50' ...) e insieme a Wood (giustamente MoM) ha cambiato la faccia della mischia, della squadra e alla fine della partita , poi vinta dal Gloster 23-21...
Lui e Nieto sono in forma e stanno giocando bene , altrochè!

infatti il problema è l'altro seconda linea, come sta giocando dellapè? mi sembra che sia rientrato da un mese a giocare...

While the 2008 Six Nations proved to be another "close-but-no-cigar" experience for the Azzurri, it confirmed that Italy are still half a yard short of becoming a major force in European Rugby.

Since they joined the Six Nations back in 2000 we have seen a steady progression from Italy, but the November internationals provided further proof that they seem to have reached something of a plateau in their development.

After pushing both Ireland and England painstakingly close in last year's Six Nations, the Azzurri ended the year with just two wins from ten Test matches, against Scotland in Rome in March (their only success in the tournament) before a highly-encouraging 13-12 win in Argentina.

However, narrow November defeats to Australia, Argentina and the Pacific Islands will have left coach Nick Mallet frustrated. Considering how England were thumped by Australia a week later, Italy's performance could well be seen in an encouraging light, but tasting defeat when victory was possible is becoming a nasty habit.

With a number of world-class props, second row Marco Bortolami, number eight Sergio Parisse, and the Bergamasco brothers, Mauro and Mirco - all of whom ply their trade abroad - Mallett has some genuinely talented players at his disposal.

But it is pivotal positions which are posing the biggest problem and Mallett recognises fundamental change is required if Italy are to develop further. He has pleaded for a change at the core of Italian rugby, urging clubs to spurn foreign imports to develop home-grown players and bolster his ranks, but it won't happen overnight.

Once again, Scotland will be Italy's primary target for a win in 2009 but a historic second win at Murrayfield will be no easy task. A week earlier they host Ireland in Rome - in the light of last year's close game at Croke park, an upset is not impossible.

Coach: 52-year-old Nick Mallett's arrival in Rome was hailed as the start of a new, more succesful era and the former Springbok and Stade Français coach will be determined to deliver in 2009 after a low-key first year in charge. Just two wins is slightly below what was hoped for under the most successful Bok coach of the modern era. Now the honeymoon period is over and he will be well aware strong performances must be turned into results. The language barrier is no longer a problem as Mallet has used his knowledge of French to quickly pick up the local lingo. His coaching pedigree is beyond question, and his straight-talking approach is appreciated by both players and press, but Mallet will be the first to tell you that he would like to host a few more press conferences as a winning coach in the future.

Captain: Without a doubt one of the best number eights in world rugby, Sergio Parisse leads by example. At just 25 the Stade Français loose forward has already been to two World Cups and brings invaluable experience to the squad. Many pundits' pick for the World player of the year in 2008, the Italian skipper will be looking for another big season in blue.

Key Man: The strength of Italy's pack - featuring the likes Martin Castrogiovanni and Carlos Nieto - is well documented and few sides would ever dream of pushing them around. But it's behind the pack where the key to Italy's future success lies. Nick Mallet has long bemoaned the lack a of half-back combination capable of turning the forwards' hard work into scoring opportunities for the backs. In Andrea Marcato, the Azzurri may have found their man. Although not yet the world-class pivot that a top sides needs, Marcato showed in November that he has the potential to develop if allowed a chance. If he comes good, Italy will make a step forward.

New Hope: Born and raised in Toulouse, where he progressed through the ranks of Europe's most illustrious rugby club, 25-year-old lock Jean Francois Montauriol moved to Super 10 club Veneziamestre at the end of 2008 and received his first call up to an Azzurri training camp in January by virtue of his Italian heritage. Though unlikely to feature in the starting XV immediately, he could well be a feature of future Italy line-ups.

Strengths: Italy have managed to transform themselves into a physical and confident rugby nation. They are no longer just brutes, they now have technique. This can only get better under the guidance of their astute coach.

Weaknesses: Over the last two years Italy have consistently been able to stay in games, but rarely been able to win them. They are prone to producing an hour of monumental effort and possession and then disappearing for crucial 10-minute stints. That inability to contain sides throughout 80 minutes is linked to their lack of depth as they are unable to match the impact of other teams' replacements in the last twenty minutes. As mentioned above, a lack of a proven half-back partnership is a worry.

Prediction: Considering Italy's draw, they are set to struggle. Their home games are against arguably the three strongest nations (France, Wales and Ireland) and Scotland have been looking strong of late, so a win at Murrayfield will be tough. Once again, Italy will finish last.
