Nathan Thomas and James Bater move to Stradey Park
Phil Davies has made his first signings as Llanelli Scarlets coach with the arrival of Wales loose forwards rows Nathan Thomas and James Bater.
Thomas spent last season at Leeds Tykes - the club Davies left for Llanelli - while Bater, 26, joins from the Ospreys.
"Nathan is one of the most experienced and respected players in Europe and one of only eight Welshmen to have played in a Heineken Cup winning team," said Davies.
"Having worked with him at Leeds I know all about his qualities and he will bring a hard, competitive edge with him.
"As for James, he is one of the brightest young back row talents in Wales.
"He has displayed good leadership qualities at his former clubs and deserves more than the one Welsh cap he has under his belt to date."
Thomas, 30, won the last of his nine caps against South Africa in 1998 and spent six seasons at Bath.
Bater, who made his solitary international appearance against Romania in 2003, has played 19 times in the Heineken Cup for Swansea and the Ospreys.

Narbonne a engagé deux joueurs sud-africains, Hend Eksteen et Retief Uys pour renforcer sa deuxième ligne après le départ pour Gloucester du capitaine italien Marco Bortolami.
Le Racing Club de Narbonne-Méditerranée se renforce. Suite au départ capitaine italien Marco Bortolami pour l'Angleterre, les Narbonnais ont engagé deux joueurs sud-africains, Hend Eksteen et Retief Uys, tous deux attendus pour le 10 juillet pour le début des entraînements des Audois. Eksteen (26 ans, 1,98 m, 120 kg), qui a disputé le Super 14 dans les rangs des Stormers, a signé pour deux ans et devrait être la pièce maîtresse de la seconde ligne narbonnaise. Retief Uys (27 ans, 2,05 m, 110 kg) vient des Impala Leopards avec lesquels il a disputé la Currie Cup. Ce deuxième ligne, sauteur et mobile, a signé pour un an, selon le club français.

Beati loro che in Pro2 hanno tutti 'sti fondi... anche se onestamente forse poteva essere usati in modo più intelligente... la Pro2 sarà anche un campionato competitivo... però mi pare addirittura eccessivo creare una squadra così... sarebbe bastato anche meno per ottenere la pormozione... e non so se potranno anche il prossim'anno permettersi Umaga...
