Leinster cruised to an emphatic 66-3 victory over Padova in UCD Bowl, Belfield on Saturday afternoon to conclude their pre-season campaign on a winning note.
Gary Brown bagged a first-half hat-trick of tries while Luke Fitzgerald and replacement Fergus McFadden chipped in with a brace each as Leinster dominated the game practically from the off. Cian Healy and Brian Blaney also crossed over while Jonathan Sexton impressed with a 21-point tally which included a try.
It was the Italian Super 10 side who opened the scoring from a Giacomo Preo from the Leinster 10-metre line after seven minutes, but when Jonathan Sexton took a good line to touch down three minutes later, which the St. Mary’s College man converted, it was one-way traffic for the hosts as they ran riot in blistering sunshine.
Gary Brown impressed on the right wing all afternoon and gathered his first try on 13 minutes after skipper Leo Cullen initially stole a lineout and a well-worked move out the backline found Brown metres from the line.
A Rob Kearney break four minutes later through the Padova rear-guard created space and the Ireland international off-loaded a perfectly weighted pass for Luke Fitzgerald to gather and sprint clear for Leinster’s third try of the afternoon.
Though Sexton’s kick shaved the upright, he made amends in the 20th minute when he converted Brown’s second try after a superb break from Michael Berne and Fitzgerald.
Brown was on fire now and rounded off his third try after 32 minutes following a flowing move involving Chris Whitaker, Sexton and Fitzgerald who unleashed the Blackrock speedster to run in – with Sexton adding the points - and give Leinster a 31-3 half-time lead.
Leinster’s dominance continued in the second half with Cian Healy getting on the scoresheet, while Fitzgerald capitalised on a fortuitous bounce from a clever kick forward on the hour mark to touch down.
Sexton added both conversions and his third of the half in the 71st minute for sub Fergus McFadden who impressed with a late cameo.
Brian Blaney added a try of his own following some dominant forward play in the 75th minute, while McFadden ended the rout with his second – and Leinster’s tenth try – of a hungry and encouraging all-round display.

Test amichevole Munster v VIadana
MUNSTER 36
ARIX VIADANA 7
MARCATORI: 10° m. Coughlan tr. Manning, 25° m. Mariani tr. Howarth, 27° m. O’Boyle tr. Manning, 35° c.p. Manning, 38° m. Pucciariello, 56° m. Coughlan tr. Manning, 77° m. Horgan tr. Manning.
MUNSTER: Lawlor; Horgan, Lewis, Tipoki, O’Boyle; Manning, Hurley; Coughlan, Ronan, O’Donnel; Melbourne, Holland; Pucciariello, Cronin, McGovern. All.: Declan Kidney
ARIX VIADANA: Reid (64° Pilat); Pedersen, Pace, Law, Mariani; Howarth (41° Curle), Bortolussi (41° McGrath) ; Benatti, Persico, Harding (64° Vella); Filippini (41° Geldenhuys), Waller; Rouyet (53° Alonso), Ferraro (53° Moretti), Milani (53° Redolfini). All.: Jim Love.
