Carter set for six-month lay-off

New Zealand's star fly-half Dan Carter faces a six-month lay-off after suffering an Achilles tendon injury against Stade Francais on Saturday.
The 26-year-old is with Perpignan on a six-month sabbatical but his stint is set to end after just five matches.
He will have an operation in Lyon on Friday to repair a partial tear of his Achilles tendon.

Carter was due back in New Zealand in June but could now miss most of the All Blacks' Tests and the Tri-Nations.
Carter, on a lucrative salary in the south of France, has played just five games - one in the Heineken Cup, four in the Top 14 - and scored 45 points for Perpignan.
He kicked two penalties and converted Maxime Mermoz's try in front of 80,000 people at the Stade de France in Saturday's 13-13 draw but damaged his Achilles in the final minute of the match.

He was making his return to the Perpignan side after a three-week absence due to an earlier Achilles tendon injury.
"It's a huge disappointment especially for him and for the club," said a Perpignan spokesman.
"Now we are going to do our best possible to get him healthy again."
Carter was part of the Crusaders team that won the 2008 Super 14 to make it seven titles in 13 years and has scored 731 points in 59 Tests for the All Blacks, including 23 tries.

Meanwhile former All Black scrum-half Byron Kelleher will be sidelined for six weeks after injuring his knee playing for Toulouse against Biarritz.
Kelleher, who joined Toulouse after the 2007 World Cup, is expected to be fit for April's Heineken Cup quarter-final against Cardiff.
