Cmq primo tempo finale : New Zealand 7 - Fiji 17

Melrose Cup Final: Fiji 29-19 New Zealand

Fiji relieved New Zealand of the RWC Sevens crown in Hong Kong on Sunday, claiming the Melrose Cup after producing an awesome display of ability, verve and panache in the Final. Fiji became the first nation to win the title twice, and Waisale Serevi, the game\'s definitive performer, hoisted the silverware just as he did on the same pitch eight years ago. Fiji had started the brighter, keeping the ball well and a quick injection of pace saw Jone Daunivucu race through the New Zealand defence to score the opening try. Another flowing move involving Waisale Serevi and Vili Satala ended with a try for the Sevens maestro - his 19th in RWC Sevens history - after a flick backhanded pass. Josh Blackie brought the defending champions back into the game, but Semisi Naevo cancelled out this score with a try of his own to make it 17-7 at half-time. The Fijians increased this lead with tries by Apolosi Satala and Sireli Bobo, before New Zealand finished strongly with Isaia Toeava and Rudi Wolf scoring late tries.
SF1: New Zealand 24-20 Australia
SF2: Fiji 24-19 England

Fiji legend Waisale Serevi booked his side a place in Melrose Cup Final by sliding over for an injury-time try that sent England spinning out of the tournament. Scores were locked at 7-7 at half time after Fiji\'s Sireli Bobo and England\'s Ben Gollings crossed for converted tries. Fiji stretched their lead - and their legs - in the second half, but some sterling work by England skipper Simon Amor forced the game into extra-time. Fiji then responded with Serevi\'s try, and England\'s dream of an appearance in a fourth consecutive Hong Kong Final was over. New Zealand booked their berth in the Final after squeaking past an eager Australian side. Australia caught the Kiwis by surprise when Anthony Sauer stepped around three defenders to score an early try. But the men in black responded with tries from Josh Blackie and Amasio Valence before Australia\'s Keiran Massey\'s crossed on the cusp of half-time. New Zealand the sealed the win in the second half by scoring a further three tries. Australia scored another two - but strong New Zealand defence left the Aussies just out of reach.

QF1: New Zealand 33-7 France
QF2: Australia 15-14 South Africa
QF3: Fiji 22-14 Argentina
QF4: England 36-0 Scotland

Defending champions New Zealand came from behind, after an early Julien Malzieu try, to beat France and advance to the Cup semi-finals. Malzieu\'s early score ignited New Zealand, who scored tries through Tanerau Latimer, Amasio Valence, Tafai Ioasa, Rudi Wolf and Tamati Ellison. Australia face the daunting task of taking on New Zealand in the semi-finals, after they upstaged South Africa in the quarters. The Australians came back with second-half tries by Anthony Sauer and big-striding Shawn Mackay, after the Sevens Boks had taken a 14-5 lead at the break. Fiji, despite being a man down after Semisi Naevo was yellow-carded for a high tackle, took a commanding 15-0 lead into the half-time break. Argentina came back with two second-half tries, but Sireli Bobo capped the win with a try on the final hooter. England advanced to the semis after a comfortable six tries to nil win over Scotland. Leading 17-0 at half-time England looked impressive putting on another 19 unanswered points in the second half shutting their opponents out of the match.
THE PLATE

Plate Final: Portugal v Samoa, 11:00

Samoa clinched the Plate with a victory over a spirited Portuguese side, making their extra experience, pace and power during the final moments of the game. Only three points separated the sides at half-time - two unconverted tries by Sailosi Tagicakibau giving Samoa a 10-7 advantage with Portugal\'s try coming from Diogo Coutinho. But a score from replacement Junior Leota and a brace by David Lemi, making him the tournament\'s leading try scorer to this point with eight, finally broke the Europeans\' resistance.

SF1: Georgia 5-29 Portugal
SF2: Russia 12-29 Samoa

Portugal booked a place in the Plate Final courtesy of a fine 29-5 victory over Georgia in their semi-final encounter on Sunday. A hat-trick from Antonio Aguilar did the damage, with Diogo Coutinho and Nuno Carvalho also getting in on the act. Georgia - Plate runners-up at RWC Sevens 2001 - could only manage a solitary try by
Lekso Gugava. Portugal will meet the might of Samoa in the Final after the islanders repelled a strong challenge from Russia. The Russians actually held a 12-10 lead on the second half, but the Samoans upped the ante, and three late tries saw them through to the Final.

QF1: Georgia 24-0 USA
QF2: Portugal 21-12 Tunisia
QF3: Russia 29-5 Japan
QF4: Samoa 19-14 Ireland

Tedore Zibzibadze and Irakli Machkhaneli set up a comfortable win for Georgia over the Americans as they scored all their team\'s tries between them. Portugal ended Tunisia\'s dream tournament with a nine point win to advance to the semi-finals. Russia remain on course to repeat their Plate success at the last RWC Sevens in 2001 after beating Japan by a surprisingly large margin in their quarter-final. Gaolo Elisara scored a try seconds before the final hooter to end the Irish dream of a place in the semi-finals. Ireland had a 14-12 lead at half-time and looked like keeping their advantage, but they were denied at the death and Samoa now face Russia in the semi-finals.
THE BOWL

Bowl Final: Italy 7-5 Canada

Italy claimed some silverware with a tense 7-5 victory over Canada in the Bowl Final of the 2005 World Cup Sevens in Hong Kong. Canada, who had arrived in Hong Kong hoping to repeat their Cup quarter-final appearance at RWC Sevens 2001, scored first through Stirling Richmond just before the half-time hooter. But Italy, who improved as the tournament went on and also beat Kenya in the semi-finals, never let their heads drop and a converted try by Benjamin de Jager won them the day.

SF1: Italy 28-15 Kenya
SF2: Canada 7-0 Tonga

Italy made amends for their shocking Pool form by recording a surprise 21-15 victory over the energetic Kenyans, thereby booking a spot in the Bowl Final. Italy went into the break nursing a lead of 14-10 after tries from Steven Bortolossi and Antonio Mannato cancelled out a brace from Allan Makaka of Kenya. Pablo Canavosio and Lucas Onyango traded scores in the second half before Bortolossi\'s second try made sure of the win. The Italians will meet Canada in the Final after a solitary try by Stirling Richmond ended Tonga\'s participation in the tournament.

QF1: Italy 26-21 Korea
QF2: Kenya 26-10 Hong Kong
QF3: Canada 30-0 Uruguay
QF4: Tonga 28-19 Chinese Taipei

Two first half tries by Tomas Pucciariello set Italy on their way to a place in the Bowl semi-finals. The Koreans came back, after Italy built up a 19-0 lead at the break, but it was a case of too little too late bt Korea. Late tries by Lucas Onyango and Leslie Mango set Kenya on their way to the semi-finals, where they will face Italy. Canada appeared too strong and too fast for Uruguay, with two first half tries by Quentin Fyffe setting them on their way to the quarters. Canada will meet Tonga in the semi-finals, after the Tongans were made to work hard by a resilient Chinese Taipei side that stayed in the hunt till the last minute.
