vista la scrematura di mallett (fuori favaro e marcato) è certo che vedremo un gioco al piede tattico scarso come sempre che permetterà un sacco di ripartenze agli irlandesi che hanno in kearney un fantastico interprete di questa fase....secondo me ci impallineranno sfidandoci con il gioco al piede (di la non ci sono mclean e gower...) alternato alla ricerca della touche nei pressi dei nostri 22 (hanno i piedi per farlo). se riusciranno in questo gioco per noi sarà una caporetto mallet punterà tutto su un gioco chiuso fatto di ripartenze dai raggruppamneti (giusto per spompare inutilmente i nostri avanti) farà certamente giocare sole in questa ottica (l'unica cosa che sa fare ancora decentemente è sporcare i raggruppamenti) quando invece avremmo bisogno di gente più mobile che lavori ad altezza d'erba (favaro lo avrei visto bene come pure derbyshire ma non lo farà giocare a dispetto del suo cognome ) perchè le loro ripartenze tenderanno a destabilizzare la nostra difesa facendola spostare molto. restiamo in partita solo se abbiamo l'abilità di ingaggiarli in una furiosa battaglia con gli avanti e allo stesso tempo togliamo loro le ripartenze diversamente la vedo molto male. se gli irlandesi entrano in campo "seri" mentalmente ci asfaltano a fuoco lento

Italy are more than Parisse

Paul O'Connell has reminded his Ireland team that Italy are not completely without threat when Sergio Parisse is not in the light blue.

Parisse, a nominee for the IRB Player of the Year award for the last three years, is sitting out the rest of this season after snapping a cruciate knee ligament during November.

The Italian captain has long been hailed as the player who can so often inspire the Italians to better things, but for O'Connell - and for the fired-up Azzurri - no team revolves around one man.

"He's a great player and he's a loss for them but no one team is built around one man," admitted O'Connell to Irish Rugby.

"They'll move on, same as we would if we had an injury to one of our top players.

"Certainly he's a great player and a big loss to them, but we've got to look beyond that and not be too worried about that."

Italy have a number of players in their side with over 50 caps - Mauro Bergamasco, Marco Bortolami and Martin Castrogiovanni are the pick - and will provide as physical a challenge as ever.

They failed to win a game last year after injury misfortunes and a tough schedule robbed them of momentum, but this time - Parisse aside - there appears to be a clean bill of health and a real sense of momentum following a tough November schedule.

"Italy are improving (every year). The longer they're in the competition, the better they get," said O'Connell.

"Everyone knows up front is where their real strength is. Every year we always say it, it's probably our toughest game physically, the Italy game. It's going to be a very tough one to start with.

"The set piece is very strong for them, line-out and scrum. You really need to work hard and take them on there, and see what happens after that.

"There's no doubt at the weekend it will be a big forward battle, and we need to perform there before the backs can do anything."

Be that as it may, Ireland are the defending Grand Slam champions, well into a new coaching set-up and with an established team. Things in the camp are certainly more relaxed than last year.

"We're a lot more used to the coaches we have and the way they expect to have things done," said O'Connell.

"So, I suppose it leaves us in a position where we haven't as much to do as we did this time last year."

Siamo alle solite...
La vittoria è un sogno, ma una bella figura è nelle possibilità delle cose.
L'Irlanda ci ha sempre rispettato e non credo che le parole di O'Connel fossero di circostanza o quantomeno non completamente.
Non fosse altro perchè, scorso anno a parte, la gara contro di noi ha sempre lasciato nella loro formazione conseguenze serie dal punto di vista fisico.
