<BR>Nick Macleod kicked the goals and Robin Sowden-Taylor led the charge up front as the Blues battled to a crucial play-off victory in an Italian heatwave. If the hapless Viadana backs had been half as hot as the air temperature in the Stadio Aldo Invernici in Brescia, the Blues may well have fallen at the last hurdle of this long and frustrating season. As it was, their resolute defence and ability to snap-up half chances paid dividends after Macleod\'s three penalty goals had given them a 9-6 interval lead.
<BR>That narrow adavantage did little to calm the nerves until Sowden-Taylor, aided and abetted by line-out king Robert Sidoli, put daylight between the sides in the first minute of the second half. The flanker burst through a lineout won by the pack leader and touched down at the corner without an Italian finger being laid on him.
<BR>Though Macleod and Daryl Lilley exchanged further penalties, the game and the Blues\' European destiny was effectively settled midway throught the half with a 14-points burst inside five minutes. Clever interpassing by Nick Robinson, Rhys Williams and Ryan Powell created an overlap for Dean Dewdney for another clear run-in; then Dewdney intercepted another piece of mediocere Viadana back play to send Robinson racing away.
<BR>After that, with both sides treading water in the evening sun, the game drifted aimlessly until another fine try in injury time, finished off by Crai Morgan and more good work by Rhys Wiliams and Dewdney. Macleod\'s third unerring conversion provided a fitting end as everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Mazzantini poveraccio è stato il migliore dei suoi ed è sicuramente più in forma di Troncon in questo momento.

<BR>Il problema è che se si vuole competere con queste squadre occorre trovare formule nuove. Viadana da sola non sarà mai competitiva a questi livelli come non lo sarà mai Calvisano e nemmeno Treviso.

<BR>Io spero che questo anno prima della Celtic League serva ai dirigenti nostrani per rinsavire dal loro celodurismo da osteria e per comprendere che occorre aumentare il bacino d\'utenza e di pubblico.

<BR>Pensate solo a cosa potrebbe portare un polo veneto con una franchigia competitiva che giochi a Padova e che attingesse dai 4 team di super 10 (complimenti Venezia Mestre). Pubblico, sponsor e tanto interesse in più dai media.
<BR>Secondo voi quanti spettatori potrebbe fare una franchigia veneta competitiva al Plebiscito? Io dico che sarebbero costretti ad aumentare la capienza dello stadio.
