I am sure with Berbiziers, you will see a more dynamic , French style of rugby..where the individual is less important..and support play will become the key.
But to do that..you need a target runner in the 12 channel ..who is also capable of offloading in the tackle.
Masi takes the ball ...crashes ..and puts the ball back..but the forward momentum stops there.
It becomes too obvious for defences ...as they know there is only one attacking target...the no.12

look at wales..they send 3 or 4 different target runners..and these 4 are all guaranteed at least one supporting runner..inside or outside.

If Berbiziers is capable of changing the mentality of static attackers that unfortunatley JK insisted on...with the italian pack always sure to at least win 50% ball...then you have a very interesting team.
the question is IF?

Exactly...
centers are there for one reason...supply the ball out wide..to the spaces..
obviously..if you have a player like O\'Driscoll...a rare exception that comes once every 10 years..then you can play with a ligher no.12 like o\' Darcy..
but generally ..centers job is to suck in the attack..and AVOID FRONTAL CONTACT...and recycle tha ball.
After the first phase, numbers on the back of the rugby jersy become irrelevant...at least the way the welsh or french \"champagne rugby\" play.

I am / was a supporter of Jk ..but it is hard to deny the fact that the back play was 1) obvious 2) static 3) one dimensional

How is it that the welsh came from a wooden spoon to become one of the most potent attacking teams in the world? By AVOIDING contact in the 12/13 postions.

i am obviously not qualified to tell Berbiziers how to play rugby! just saying that if he ahs the courage to install a more Fluid / French style of play...i believe you will see a very different Italy.

In rugby they say that \" Forwards you CANNOT manufacture..you have them or you dont...But spaces in the backline you can Always manufacture\"
In other words..Italy has a 100% effective forward pack..nowq if they can find a way to manufacutre spaces in the backline...then you have something to make a lot of teams think twice.
